Dara Denton Minneapolis relationship therapist

Therapy centered on you.

Believe it or not, many of our struggles are rooted in the nervous system! The autonomic nervous system works to protect us and support our sense of safety. And sometimes that can look like self-doubt, anxiety, and relationship conflict/disconnect. I’ll help you understand the science behind your “symptoms” and the ways in which our biology contributes to how we view the world and ourselves. A dysregulated nervous system can’t connect, feel calm, or support effective communication.

I provide skills for getting to know your unique system and regulating that system, so that you can feel safe to trust yourself and connect with others. I have a direct, down-to-earth approach that isn’t devoid of humor or the occasional F-bomb. Collaboration is key, so we will work together to develop insight, identify your personal values, and implement skills that will foster growth specific to your goals.

I utilize ACT, Polyvagal Theory, mindfulness, and other skills-based interventions to support learning, symptom management, shame resilience, and behavioral change. I believe in the necessity of evidence-based practices and therefore continually receive training and education on best practices for treating developmental & relational trauma and mood disorders.

Over the years, I have worked with clients of diverse backgrounds, and in various settings from prisons to private practice. This has included work with those who are motivated to be in therapy, as well as individuals who were reluctant to trust the process. It taught me much about the human experience. While no one is immune to suffering, it is in the safety of human connection that we can heal and find happiness. It is my privilege to help you find yours.
